Hex Mundi
Hex Mundi
Formed in the fall of 2014, Hex Mundi has evolved from a husband & wife duo into one of Indianapolis’s foremost garage rock bands, bristling with lo-fi raw energy and chilled-out surf vibes reminiscent of The Growlers and Ty Segull.
Justin Renner and wife/drummer Stephanie formed the group following the dissolution of Renner’s freak folk project “An Argot”; Kiefer Sterling Berry joined later on bass, eventually replaced by Andrew Roti in May of 2015 coinciding with the release of their EP “Chrysalis.” Fueled by layered, enigmatic lyrics and friendly melodies, Hex Mundi (a riff of the Latin “Rex Mundi,” meaning “King of the World”) channels a satisfying cocktail of musical genres and dramatic themes.
“Our sound is folk/singer-songwriter with a theatrical mindset gone indie/garage rock…a pop sensibility with surf melodies” explains Renner, a former theater major who decidedly veers towards the esoteric and dramatic. “We fancied ourselves islands with rocky coasts,” Renner signs in “Islands, Ghosts,” “and found repose in the cities and seas of foreign ghosts.” The surreal and disturbing becomes a pop affair for Hex Mundi, in eerie yet jubilant fashion: “now we haunt our own houses at night!” Renner intones, “these stone tapes don’t erase but are easy to throw.” Stone Tape Theory, Renner explains, describes the idea of spiritual impressionism – that we can imprint our emotions and personal dramas onto physical objects, with lasting permanence. And as creepy as that notion may be, Hex Mundi’s music is definitely worth the spiritual imprint – best to let it in, let it fester, let it haunt your house tonight.

Cyrus Youngman & The Kingfishers
Cyrus Youngman is a novelist on the path to publishing. He's a folk-singer on the road to touring. But most importantly, Cyrus is an artist who has found his voice amidst the atonal roar of the 21st century. In December of 2014, Youngman met the musicians that were soon to become the backing band of his dreams. After only a month and a half, "Cyrus Youngman and the Kingfishers" has already finished tracking their debut EP - "Zodiac", a folk rock odyssey that will inspire you to march on Wall Street, cower beneath your covers, and kiss your parents all at the same instant.
